Prayers of the Rosary
Preparatory Prayer
O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech you, that, while meditating on these three mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son,
our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand
of the Father.
He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father (The Lord's Prayer)
Our Father , who art in heaven.
Hallowed by thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

The Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women, and blessed if the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be To The Father
Glory Be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Hail Holy Queen
Hail! Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you we send our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, O most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O, clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

The Joyful Mysteries:

The First Joyful Mystery
The Annunciation of Our Lord
Scripture Meditation: Luke 1, 26-33, 38
The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. Upon arriving, the angel said to her: "Rejoice, O highly favored daughter! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women." She was deeply troubled by his words, and wondered what his greeting meant. The angel went on to say to her: "Do not fear, Mary. You have found favor with God. You shall conceive and bear a son and give him the name Jesus. Great will be his dignity and he will be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of David his father. He will rule over the house of Jacob forever and his reign will be without end."

Mary said, "I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say." With that the angel left her.

you have revealed the beauty of your power
by exalting the lowly virgin of Nazareth
and making her the mother of our savior.
May the prayers of this woman

and fill the void of incompletion
with the presence of her child,
who lives ands reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Second Joyful Mystery
The Visitation
Scripture Meditation: Luke 1: 39-45

Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill country to a town of Judah, where she entered Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy spirit and cried out in a loud voice: "Blest are you among women and blest is the fruit of your womb. But who am I that the mother of God should come to me? The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby leapt in my womb for joy. Blest is she who trusted that the Lord's words to her would be fulfilled."

| and with Mary may we praise you for ever.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives in the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Third Joyful Mystery
The Nativity of Jesus
Scripture Meditation: Luke 2: 6-12

While they were there the days of her confinement were completed. She gave birth to her first born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the place where travelers lodged.

There were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping night watch by turns over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them, as the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were very much afraid. The angel said to them: "You have nothing to fear! I come to proclaim good news to you---tidings of great joy to be shared by the whole people. This day in the David's city a savior has been born to you: in a manger you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes."

with the birth of your son,
your glory breaks on the world.
Through the night hours of the darkened earth
we your people watch for the coming of your promised Son.
As we wait, give us a foretaste of the joy that you will grant us
when the fullness of his glory has filled the earth,
who lives and reigns with you for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Fourth Joyful Mystery
The Presentation in the Temple
Scripture Meditation: Luke 2: 25-32

There lived in Jerusalem at the time a certain man named Simeom. He was just and pious, and awaited the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not experience death until he had seen the Anointed of the Lord. He came to the temple now, inspired by the Spirit; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform for him the customary ritual of the law, he took him in his arms and blessed God in these words:

"Now, Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace;
you have fulfilled your word.
For my eyes have witnessed your saving deed
displayed for all the peoples to see:
A revealing light to the Gentiles,
the glory of your people of Israel."

Christ your son became man for us
and was presented in the temple.
May he free our hearts from sin
and bring us into your presence.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Fifth Joyful Mystery
The Finding in the Temple
Scripture Meditation: Luke 2: 41-50

The parents of Jesus used to go every year to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, and when he was twelve they went up for the celebration as was their custom. As they were returning at the end of their feast, the child Jesus remained behind unknown to his parents. Thinking he was in the party they continued their journey for a day, looking for him among their relatives and acquaintances.

Not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem in search of him. On the third day they came upon him in the temple sitting in the mist of teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. All who heard him were amazed at his intelligence and his answers.

When his parents saw him they were astonished, and his mother said to him: "Son, why have you done this to us? You see that your father and I have been searching for you in sorrow." He said to them: "Why did you search for me? Did you not know that I had been in my Father's house?" But they did not grasp what was said to them.

Our Father (1 prayer)

Amen.

The Sorrowful Mysteries:
The First Sorrowful Mystery
The Agony in the Garden
Scripture Meditation: Luke 22: 39-46

Jesus went out and made his way, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives; his disciples accompanied him. On reaching the place he said to them, "Pray that you may not be put to the test." He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, then went down on his knees and prayed with these words: "Father, if it is your will, take this cup from me; yet not my will but yours be done." An angel then appeared to him from heaven to strengthen him. In his anguish he prayed with all the greater intensity, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. Then he rose from prayer and came to his disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted with grief. He said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Wake up, and pray that you may not be subjected to the trial."

Our Father (1 prayer)
Hail Mary (10 prayers)
Glory Be to the Father (1 prayers)

[The following prayer was taken from the Roman Missal Mass of the Passion. It may be said at the conclusion of the decade, although it's recitation is optional.]

Almighty, ever-living God,
you have given the human race Jesus Christ our Savior
as a model of humility.
He fulfilled your will
by becoming man and giving his life on the cross.
Help us to bear witness to you
by following his example of suffering
and make us worthy to share in his resurrection.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit.
One God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Second Sorrowful Mystery
The Scouring at the Pillar
Scripture Meditation: Mark 15: 6-15

Now on the occasion of a festival he would release for them one prisoner—any man they ask for. There was a prisoner named Barabbas jailed along with the rebels who had committed murder in the uprising. When the crowd came up to press their demand he honor the custom, Pilate rejoined, "Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you?" He was unaware, of course that it was out of jealousy that the chief priests had handed him over. Meanwhile, the chief priests incited the crowd to have him release Barabbas instead. Pilate again asked them, "What am I to do with the man you call King of the Jews?" They shouted back, "Crucify him!" So Pilate, who wished to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them, and after he had had Jesus scourged, he handed him over to be crucified.

Hail Mary (10 prayers)
Glory Be to the Father (1 prayers)

[The following prayer was taken from the Roman Missal Mass of Passion (Palm) Sunday. It may be said at the conclusion of the decade, although it's recitation is optional.]

Almighty Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
you sent your Son
to be born of woman and to die on a cross,
so that through the obedience of one man,
estrangement might be dissolved for all men.
Guide our minds by his truth
and strengthen our lives by the example of his death,
that we may live in union with you
in the kingdom of your promise.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Third Sorrowful Mystery
The Crowning with Thorns
Scripture Meditation: John 19: 1-8

Pilate's next move was to take Jesus and have him scourged. The soldiers then wove a crown of thorns and fixed it on his head, throwing around his shoulders a cloak of royal purple. Repeatedly they came up to him and said, "All hail, King of the Jews!", slapping his face as they did so.

Pilate went out a second time and said to the crowd: "Observe what I do. I am going to bring him out to you to make you realize that I find no case [against him]." When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple cloak, Pilate said to them, Look at the man!" As soon as the chief priests and the temple police saw him they shouted, "Crucify him! Crucify him! Pilate said, "Take him and crucify him yourselves; I find no case against him." "We have our law," the Jews responded, "and according to that law he must die because he made himself God's Son." When Pilate heard this kind of talk, he was more afraid than ever.

Our Father (1 prayer)
Hail Mary (10 prayers)
Glory Be to the Father (1 prayers)

[The following prayer was taken from the Roman Missal Celebration of the Lord's Passion Good Friday. It may be said at the conclusion of the decade, although it's recitation is optional.]

Lord,
by shedding his blood for us,
Your Son, Jesus Christ,
established the paschal mystery.
In your goodness, make us holy
and watch over us always.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery
The Carrying of the Cross
Scripture Meditation: John 19: 16-22

Jesus was led away, and carrying the cross by himself, went out to what is called the Place of the Skull (in Hebrew, Golgotha). There they crucified him, and two others with him: one on either side, Jesus in the middle. Pilate had an inscription placed on the cross which read,
JESUS THE NAZOREAN, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

This inscription, in Hebrew, Golgotha). There they crucified him, and two others with him: one on either side, Jesus in the middle. Pilate had an inscription placed on the cross which read, JESUS THE NAZOREAN, THE KINGOF THE JEWS. This inscription, in Hebrew, Latin and Greek, was read by many of the Jews, since the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city. The chief priests of the Jews tried to tell Pilate, "You should not have written, 'King of the Jews." Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."

Lord,
by the suffering of Christ your Son
you have saved us all from the death
we inherited from sinful Adam.
By the law of nature we have borne the likeness of his manhood.
May the sanctifying power of grace
help us to put on the likeness of our Lord in heaven,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery
The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus
Scripture Meditation: John 19: 16-22

Near the cross of Jesus there stood his other, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. Seeing his mother there with the disciple whom he loved, Jesus said to his mother, "woman, there is your son." In turn he said to the disciple, "there is your mother." From that hour onward, the disciple took her into his care.

After that, Jesus, realizing that everything was now finished, said to fulfill the Scripture, "I am thirsty." There was a jar there, full of common wine. They stuck a sponge soaked in this wine on some hyssop and raised it to his lips. When Jesus took the wine, he said, "Now it is finished." Then he bowed his head, and delivered over his spirit.

in obedience to you

your Son, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Glorious Mysteries:
The First Glorious Mystery
The Resurrection of our Lord
Scripture Meditation: Mark 16, 1-7

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought perfumed oils with which they intended to go and anoint Jesus. Very early, just after sunrise, on the first day of the week they came to the tomb. They were saying to one another, "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" When they looked, they found that the stone had been rolled back. (It was a huge one.) On entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting at the right, dressed in a white robe. This frightened them thoroughly, but he reassured them: "You need not be amazed! You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, the one who was crucified. He has been raised up; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. Go now and tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you to Galilee, where you will see him just as he told you.' "

Our Father (1 prayer)
Hail Mary (10 prayers)
Glory Be to the Father (1 prayers)

[The following prayer was taken from the Roman Missal Mass of Easter Sunday. It may be said at the conclusion of the decade, although it's recitation is optional.]

God our Father,
by raising Christ your Son
you conquered the power of death
and opened for us the way to eternal life.
Let our celebration today raise us up
and renew our lives by the Spirit that is within us.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Second Glorious Mystery
The Ascension into Heaven
Scripture Meditation: Luke 24, 46-53

Jesus said to the Eleven: "thus it is written that the Messiah must suffer and rise from the dead on the third day. In his name, penance for the remission of sins is to be preached to the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of this. See, I send down upon you the promise of my Father. Remain here in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

He then led them out near Bethany, and with hands upraised, blessed them. As he blessed, he left them, and was taken up to heaven. They fell down to do him reverence, then returned to Jerusalem filled with joy. There they were to be found in the temple constantly, speaking the praises of God.

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Third Glorious Mystery
The Descent of the Holy Spirit
Scripture Meditation: Acts 2, 1-7

When the day of Pentecost came it found them gathered in one place. Suddenly from up in the sky there came a noise like a strong, driving wind which was heard all through the house where they were seated. Tongues as of fire appeared which parted and came to rest on each of them. All were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began to express themselves in foreign tongues and make bold proclamation as the Spirit prompted them.

Staying in Jerusalem at the time were devout Jews of every nation under heaven. These heard the sound, and assembled in a large crowd. They were much confused because each one heard these men speaking his own language. The whole occurrence astonished them.

Father of light,
from whom every good gift comes,
send your Spirit into our lives with the power of a mighty wind,
and by the flame of your wisdom open the horizons of our minds.
Loosen our tongues to sing your praise
in words beyond the power of speech,
for without your Spirit man could never raise his voice
in words of peace or announce the truth that Jesus is Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Fourth Glorious Mystery
The Assumption of Mary
Scripture Meditation: Luke 1, 46-55

Then Mary Said:
"My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my savior,
for he has looked upon his servant in her lowliness;
all ages to come shall call me blessed. God who is mighty has done great things for me, holy is his name; His mercy is from age to age on those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm; He has confused the proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has deposed the mighty from their thrones and raised the lowly to high places.
The hungry he has given every good thing, while the rich he has sent empty away.
He has upheld Israel his servant, ever mindful of his mercy;
Even as he promised our fathers, promised Abraham and his descendants forever."

May we see heaven as our final goal and come to share her glory.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Fifth Glorious Mystery
The Coronation of Mary
Scripture Meditation: Judith 13, 18, 19-20

"Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God, above all the women on earth; and blessed be the LORD God, the creator of heaven and earth…Your deed of hope will never be forgotten by those who tell of the might of God. May God make this redound to your everlasting honor, rewarding you with blessings, because you risked your life when your people were being oppressed, and you averted our disaster, walking uprightly before our God."
